Hydro-Thirst™ Insect Water Crystals for Feeders
Hydro-Thirst™ Insect Water Crystals make it easy to give feeder insects a clean moisture source without using messy open water bowls. They are ideal for crickets, Dubia roaches, red runner roaches, mealworms, superworms, and other feeder insects kept in holding bins, breeder tubs, or temporary feeder cups.
Open water dishes can spill, soak the bin, create odor, and cause small insects to drown. Hydro-Thirst™ helps solve that problem by turning water into a gel-like moisture source that insects can drink from more easily. As a result, your feeder setup stays cleaner, drier, and easier to maintain.
These dry crystals expand when soaked in water, so a small amount goes a long way. Hydro-Thirst™ is available in multiple sizes, making it useful for new reptile keepers, small feeder orders, larger insect colonies, and breeders who maintain multiple bins.
Easy Mixing Instructions
Use approximately 1 teaspoon of dry crystals for 8oz of water or 6 teaspoons for one gallon of water. You can also cover the crystals with clean water, allow them to fully expand, and then drain off the extra water before serving.
Place the hydrated crystals in a shallow dish inside the feeder insect container. Replace them when they dry out, become dirty, smell bad, or get mixed with waste, food, or substrate. Although water crystals make hydration easier, feeder insects still need proper food, ventilation, temperature, and regular cleaning.
Hydro-Thirst™ is a great hydration option for:
- Crickets
- Dubia roaches
- Red runner roaches
- Mealworms
- Superworms
- Feeder insect holding bins
- Feeder insect breeder setups

Feeder Insect Water Crystal FAQ
What are insect water crystals used for?
Insect water crystals provide moisture for feeder insects without using an open water bowl. They are helpful for crickets, Dubia roaches, red runners, mealworms, superworms, and other feeder insects held before feeding.
Why should I use water crystals instead of a water bowl?
Open water bowls can spill, soak the bin, increase odor, and cause small insects to drown. Water crystals hold moisture in a gel-like form, which makes hydration cleaner and easier to manage.
How long do water crystals take to hydrate?
They usually expand after soaking in water. Hydration time can vary depending on water temperature, crystal amount, and water quality.
