Pink Toe Tarantula
(Avicularia avicularia)
Overview:
The pink-toe tarantula is native to many parts of South America, primarily inhabiting the northern regions. They are predatory arachnids who are recognized by their beautiful blue body and signature pink tips on their legs. This species is known to have up to a 5′ inch leg span.
Care:
This tarantula is arboreal, spending its time in hallowed tree trunks waiting for prey to scurry by. Rarely spotted on the ground, this species needs high, hallow places to climb, as well as dark areas to make their webs. They eat primarily insects such as Dubia roaches, though feeder mice and even fish can serve as good alternatives. They should have a reasonably sized water bowl with standing water, though it is recommended to put dirt or paper towels in it to prevent accidental drowning. They require mild humidity, which assists in the molting process
