Mexican Red rump tarantula
Overview:
The mexican red rump is a must have for any tarantula collector, as well as an amazing beginner spider. This species is indentified by its signature red abdomen, along with its greenish blue legs and body. They are extremely docile in temperment, and almost never bite, though they will kick hairs if they feel threatened. They are native to mexico and the southern parts of the united states.
Care:
This tarantula is terrestrial, spending its time in burrows or walking along the ground in search of food. They need plenty of hides, and loose substrate that they can make webs over and dig around in. They eat primarily insects such as Dubia roaches, though feeder mice and even fish can serve as good alternatives. They should have a reasonably sized water bowl with standing water, though its recommended to put dirt or paper towel in it to prevent accidental drowning. They also require mild humidity, this assists in the molting process. This species prefers room temperature, from 70-85 degrees, so if youre comfortable, so are they!
