Springtail Care Sheet
Introduction
Springtails are small, wingless insects that are found in moist, humid environments around the world. They are detritivores, which means that they eat decaying organic matter. Springtails are an important part of the terrarium ecosystem, as they help to break down waste and keep the environment clean.
Care Requirements
Springtails are very easy to care for. They need a humid environment and a small amount of food. The ideal temperature range for springtails is 65-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Humidity
Most Springtails need a humid environment to survive. The substrate in their container should be kept moist, but not soggy. You can mist the substrate with water or use a hygrometer to monitor the humidity level. Tropical Pink Springtails can withstand dryer environment
Food
Springtails do not need a lot of food. A small amount of brewers yeast or Springtail Culture Booster will be enough to keep them healthy. You can also provide them with small pieces of fruit or vegetables.
Maintenance
Springtail cultures are very low-maintenance. You only need to do a few things to keep them healthy:
- Mist the substrate with water as needed to keep it moist.
- Add a small amount of food every few days.
- Inspect the culture for any signs of mold or fungus.
Troubleshooting
If your springtail culture is not thriving, there are a few things you can check:
- The humidity level may be too low.
- The food may not be suitable. We recommend only using Springtail Culture Booster for the best result.
- There may be too many springtails in the container. You can feed them off or make new cultures.
If you have checked all of these things and your springtail culture is still not thriving, you may need to start a new culture.
